Hi,

I ordered a set of the flashcards and they are great.  I do have one suggestion though.  I like to have my students learn new vocabulary words (nouns) with the articles (el, la, los, las).  It really helps with words like “calcetín” where the gender of the word is not clear.

Keep up the great work!!

Gary

Hola Gary,

Thanks for your message! Not including the article (el/la) offers the possibility to play a different game with the cards.

1) Start by taking the verbs and adjectives away (in the first set there aren’t any verbs or adjectives, so you’ll play with the whole deck). Then divide the class in groups and give an equal number of cards to each group.

2) When you tell them to begin, they’ll have to classify the cards in two groups: masculine (abrigo, sillón, mantel, etc.) and feminine (televisión, tijeras, botas, etc.). As soon as a group finishes, they’ll have to say “stop” or “ya” aloud. Write their name on the board and let the other groups finish, writing also their names on the board as they complete the task.

3) Once everybody is done, start by checking the first group’s cards. If they divided the cards correctly, they get a point. If there is at least a mistake, they won’t get a point, and then you’ll check number two. Continue following this instructions until you find a winner. If nobody has the cards perfectly organized in masculine and feminine, nobody will get a point in that round.

4) Ask students to shuffle their cards. Then they’ll pass their deck to another group to play the second round of the game. You’ll play as many rounds as groups you have in your class.

Before playing the game, you need to decide which word you’re going to use with the cards that contain more than one word (i.e ordenador -masculine- and computadora -feminine-, or cinta adhesiva -feminine- or celo -masculine-).
