Video and activities to teach or review the verb “gustar”

Posted by Alvaro under: News

Many students struggle with this verb, and are not sure about where to place “no” or “mucho”, the difference between “gusta” and “gustan” or the use of the pronouns “me”, “te”, “le”, “nos” and “les”. We have added a new video to our icebreaker section about this topic. The activities that come with this video will help your students to solve those problems, while learning what Spaniards do in their free time. This icebreaker includes a 4-minute video filmed in Madrid, Barcelona, and Granada; an audio activity with native speakers talking about things they like; and a 7-pake PDF booklet with writing and grammar practice activities, the answer keys and the transcripts of the video and audio file.

A new way to teach the weather

Posted by Alvaro under: News

The weather is an exciting topic in a foreign language class. Students usually enjoy presenting the weather to their classmates, but a common problem is how to prepare those presentations. It might take too much time to have students researching the weather forecasts in other places, and then work on weather signs and maps. Our “El tiempo” icebreaker will hopefully help you with those problems. This icebreaker contains:

  • An 11-page document with activities that will help your students to learn how to talk about the weather in Spanish before they do their presentation.
  • The answer key and the scripts of all the audio and video files.
  • 4 audio activities to improve their listening comprehension.
  • 4 silent videos that your students can use to present the weather. They can choose between different countries (Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Spain) and then get ready using the information of the PDF file.

You can pre-view and order “El tiempo” from our icebreaker section.

¿Qué hiciste el sábado? Pretérito vs. Imperfecto

Posted by Alvaro under: News

This is our most grammar-oriented icebreaker so far. The differences between these two tenses are hard to teach and harder to understand. Even very advanced students have problems using them, and that’s why we have decided to make an icebreaker focused on the “pretérito” and two of the most common uses of the “imperfecto”:

  • Descriptions in the past.
  • Two actions that happened simultaneously.

The vocabulary of this icebreaker - free time activities- is quite simple, because we want students to concentrate in using the right tenses when they talk about what they did in the past. This is a review of the “pretérito” and an introduction of the “imperfecto”, which will hopefully help students to understand their differences, and will provide teachers with additional writing and listening examples.
